PLANT versus ANIMAL Cells                                     Sept. 26,06

Which organelles do both plant and animal cells have in common?

-Vacuoles, mitochondria, rhibosomes, cytoplasm, nucleus, cell membrane

Which organelles are specific to the plant or the animal?

1.            Chlorplasts are only found in green plants.  Their job is to make glucose (sugar) and Oxygen from water and carbon dioxide.  This is called _photosynthesis__. (= light /making)

H2O  +     CO2                       à        C6H12O6     +        O2

       Water    Carbondioxide    *makes      glucose             oxygen

·                to make this formula work, plants use chlorophyll and sunlight

the chlorophyll is found in the __chloroplasts__ organelle.

2.           Vacuoles are a lot larger and more numerous in _plant_ cells.

-       they need to use water to keep the cells rigid and strong

3.           Plant cells have walls and membrane.

Animal cells have only membranes so they can move.

Plant cell walls give the plant strength

4.  Animal cells have a special organelle called centrioles

that help the cell divide.   Plant cells do not have them.
