1.History
What is a lens?
…. A curved piece of glass, plastic, water… that is used to magnify images. Can also concentrate light and make things far away look closer.
Important Inventors:
Galileo Galilei – 1600 – made a telescope with lenses
Janssen Brothers – 1590 – two lens microscope (compound)
Anton van Leeuwenhoek 1700
– better microscope with better lenses
– looked at “beasties” found in water
Robert Hooke (late 1600)
- looked at a tree bark (cork) and saw box shaped parts he called Cells (used a compound microscope)
